FRV GOES REGIONAL
As we enter our third year publishing FRV Magazine, we are all excited with the progress and development of this project and the direction it has taken up until now. We are also excited about the challenges and achievements that will come in the future. The magazine began from two stand points; a quest to make the best quality magazine we could in style, content and printing regarding this island of Bali, and the desire to publish a serious magazine covering architectural design and good food elements. As time has passed, we have moved with the market, altering the size and content to fit an ever changing and developing landscape and have now reached a point where we are confident FRV can hold its head high in the Indonesian publishing world.

At this juncture, I’d like to thank Bob Calabritto for his unflinching mission for perfection and invaluable help in producing FRV over the last two years. We wish him well in his future endeavours. Bob is now concentrating on his restaurant business and freelance writing.
FRV, meanwhile, has continued its development and has now gone regional. We have had distribution of the magazine throughout the region since its inception, but now the content is following suit. Bali, in many ways, appears to be one of the major inspirations in South East Asian tropical living. If someone isn’t designing a Bali style villa or borrowing a concept from a chic, Bali style restaurant right now somewhere in this region, I’m not sure what they’d be doing. Bali will still be the central focus of the content in FRV, but we’ll also be including relevant and informative articles to keep you abreast of what is cool and hot all over the region. This edition we have articles on establishments in Bali, Jakarta, Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand.

In the final throes of making this edition, we heard the sad news of artist Simon Scudera’s passing earlier this month. Simon’s art was on the cover of the last edition of FRV and an article detailing his life and work was inside.

Simon was a fine artist and person and will be greatly missed by his friends and family on the island and around the world—myself included. He said to me at the beginning, when first discussing the article in FRV that he was happy his profile would be getting higher in Bali after living here off and on for 30 years. We are honoured to be able to help fulfill a small part of his life and work before his passing. We offer heartfelt condolences to his family and friends
